For Your Reading Pleasure

Still not having much to write today, but what can I say? I've been fighting a cold/sore throat/cough since Saturday and I'm ready to be done with it. On a bright note, today is Tuesday, which means tomorrow is Wednesday/Hump Day. It's funny - I actually enjoy my job and I'm already counting down to the weekend. I wonder how people feel who HATE their jobs? Actually I DO know that, because I've been THERE before, too.

...so, in lieu of having something interesting to say, I thought I'd give you a couple of interesting things to read.

Ever wonder about the origins of some of the toys you played with when you were a kid? Me neither, but I still found this article interesting.

Do you know which celebrities have twins? BESIDES Mary Kate and Ashley? Well, talk about being in someone's shadow...Although, for the most part, it seems the non-celebrity twin has done okay.

Offering up these articles sort of makes me feel like the Coffee Talk woman on SNL, Linda Richards... "Rhode Island is neither a road, nor an island. Discuss."

One other thing I found yesterday on MamaKat's blog...Stellan. Most of the medical stuff is way over my head, but in a nutshell, this little guy wasn't expected to survive the pregnancy and did, but is now struggling with a heart condition. His mom is glorifying God in an amazing way through her blog. It's sad to hear about yet another baby (and family) suffering, but what a blessing something like this can be to so many people.

And just because I've never said it before...thank you for all reading my nonsensical blog. Your comments make my day.

Well, that's how I feel.
Sore throat.
Don't want to go to work today.

Pretty good retail therapy this weekend.
New book.
New Bath and Body Smell-goods.
New vase.

Depressed about no more Every Other Friday Off.
But, I can renew my gym membership at work now.

I'm boring today. I think this is just how Mondays will be for me.

This and That Friday

Well, folks, today is my very last "Every-Other-Friday-Off." I am really going to have ENJOY it. The cleaning is done, I've got E! on downstairs and I might go spend some time at the mall (and maybe meet Hubby at Cheesecake Factory for lunch.) I don't really HAVE to end my Friday's off, but with the new job, I really want to make sure they can see that I'm completely committed. We'll see how that works out for me...

I've had a couple of thoughts running in my head the past couple of days that I just want to put out there. I hope if I verbalize it, I can't STOP THINKING ABOUT IT.

1. How is it possible for ONE headlight to burn out? They aren't like lamps or something, where maybe you're using one more than the other. You use them at exactly the same time. Shouldn't they burn out together, too?

2. Is nature so good at preservation of the species that, when in the presence of a toddler for an extended amount of time, adult's cognitive functioning lowers to that of a toddler? Or is it just me? Seriously, it is beginning to bother me that EVERY DAY this week I've woken up with this stuck in my head:

"It's the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Come inside, it's fun inside."Not to be outdone of course by:
"Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog, it's a brand new day whatcha waitin' for? Get up, get out, get on the floor. Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog."
The worst part? I'm totally into it. I lurve Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

3. After that other post about Girls Just Want to Have Fun and Breakin 2, I totally have the 80s in my head (Hey, Anniebanannie - I'm with you, the 80s rock my world).

I really want to watch The Legend of Billy Jean. Remember good ole Pat Benatar? "We can't afford to be innocent. Stand up and face the enemy. It's a do or die situation, we will be INVINCIBLE!" Totally made that movie.

And the other one I want to see? Quarterback Princess, with good ole Helen Hunt. Frakking awesome movie.

Okay, I think that is all for now. My oatmeal is ready downstairs and there's some good reality TV OnDemand that is calling out for me.

Peace out.

I Feel Ashamed..

But, I just can't help it. I admit it.

I love Miley's song, The Climb. Please don't tell anyone.

Especially my husband.

I Believe in the Beat!

I believe in the way I feeeeeeeel.

This is the theme song from Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo and I woke up with it in my head. It was on TV this past Saturday.

So was Girls Just Want to Have Fun. If Flashdance had been on, it would have been the perfect weekend.

Don't you just love 80's dance movies? Apparently life is this simple: If you got problems, Just Dance!

You live in the Ghetto and some rich white guys are going to tear down the only place you have to go to keep you safe from the violence of the streets?

Just Dance!!

You're a repressed white chick with an overbearing military dad who's new to town and a really obnoxious Helen Hunt is your only friend (besides a tween-aged Shannen Doherty)?

Just Dance!!

You're a poor white chick who has no family, wears really clunky boots, and works as a welder by day / stripper by night when all you want to do is become a professional dancer (the OTHER kind) even though you have no REAL formal training?

Just Dance!!

Well, this tired momma who needs to go fold laundry before going to work, has to clean the litter box (ew!), and then will be busy auditing files all day will do the only thing that can make those tasks disappear!

It's Spring!

The title has nothing to do with this post. I just thought I would point that out in case any of you were unaware. It's also a good reminder for me...this morning when we headed to work, for some reason it felt like early fall instead of the first day of spring. All I wanted to do was go buy some Halloween decorations. Nobody seems to have these items on their shelves, so I went to work instead.

Since I don't really have anything interesting to blog about right now (other than surviving my first week of my VERY BUSY new job), I'll post something that Anniebanannie so obligingly tagged me with...

You've probably seen some version of this before, so we'll keep it simple. Go to google and type "Your name" and then the word "needs" into the Google search engine. Then list the first ten responses that make sense. I actually used my IRL name, but am still trying to protect the innocent (me)...so I'm shortening it here to just K.

1. K needs to take off the gloves.
You mean other people think so, too??

2. K needs a refreshment.
Darn right I do.

3. K needs money.
I’m actually okay in this department. But now I know that if this is ever true, all I need to do is put it on the internetz. I’m sure the money will flood in!

4. K needs super effort to make the cut.
Cut for what? Should I be preparing for something? This could cause serious anxiety.

5. K needs all five of her riders around her at all times.
Well, geez, you just told me I need super effort to make the cut. Why WOULDN’T I need all five of my riders around me at all times?

6. K needs is to focus on her kid, she has problems…
Well, that’s not nice.

7. K needs to mind her own business.
And neither is that!

8. K needs to loose a few.
C’mon! Give me a break!!! I was visiting the family in Oklahoma and just started a new job this week. I can admit I’ve been eating a little more than usual for the past couple of weeks. So shoot me! (But at least I'm not the one that spelled it "loose" instead of "lose.")

9. K needs killin!
I guess I didn’t need to make that last statement. Someone’s already right on top of the issue…

10. K needs to shut up and go home.
Looks like I need to do some research on the people out there who are sullying my good name. Either that or legally change my name to Mary. Mary’s never have this kind of trouble.

Join in the fun. I'd love to read about what the Internetz thinks YOU all need, too!

By the way, I decided out of sheer boredom that I would read Twilight again. I'm actually enjoying it more the second time, I think. But the point is, I don't necessarily like to re-read books, so if anyone has any suggestions for new reads, I'd LOVE to hear from you!

Because I'm Too Tired to Think of Something to Write About

I stole this off of Impulsive Addict's blog.

Here's the rules:*Copy and paste the questionnaire, and post with your answers on yourblog.*Refer and link back to me.*Tag four bloggers and leave them comments to let them know they havebeen tagged.*Answer honestly!

(1) When is your birthday?
October 19, 1975. Can someone please explain to me how I ended up in my THIRTIES?!?!

(2) How long have you been blogging?
Technically since April 2008 but I've gone through a couple of incarnations since then.

(3) Tell me your five most favorite body parts.
On me? Hmm, let's see.... Nothing?
1. I like my lips 2. I like my eyes 3. I like my shoulders. 4. I like my feet - no matter how much weight I gain, my shoes always fit. 5. I like my hair.
Whadda ya know, that wasn't as hard as a I thought it would be.

(4) What color are you nails right now?
They are the color God intended them to be, but I'm getting ready to go pain them Sephora/OPI Metro Chic.

(5) Have you had any depressing thoughts lately?
Other than the usual crap that has most of the country depressed? Not really. As the title of my blog suggests, I'm not a Glass Half Empty kind of girl. Of course, I'm not a Glass Half Full Girl either. I'm a realist. But that's not what you asked. So, to summarize...not really.

(6) What's your plan for the next month?
Man, I haven't planned past this weekend.

(7) At what age did you have your first crush?
I don't know how old I was, but I know WHO it was....that would be Mr. Kenny Rogers.

(8) Have you attended any school reunions?
Not yet. I was busy getting ready for my wedding when my 10-year reunion happened. This year is fifteen. Shit, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

(9) Have you ever passed gas in public and pretended like you didn'tsmell anything?
Well, of course!!!! (Be honest, you know you have, too). But, in all truthfulness, I didn't have to pretend. My pooties don't stink.

(10) What era do you wish you were born in? I like the conveniences of the modern era, but wouldn't mind a little time traveling.

(11) Are you a vegetarian?
I've been giving it some serious thought.

(12) Do you secretly wear granny panties when your man is not around?
I only wear Granny Panties when Aunt Flow is around. I like to call them Bitch Panties.

(13) What is your ultimate dream job?
I think in my "About Me" section, I already said that I want to be Rachel Zoe. But if that doesn't pan out, anything in fashion - except for the act of designing - would do. (and let me just point out that my ACTUAL profession couldn't be FURTHER from the glamour of the fashion industry).

(14) What does your husband do that annoys you the most?
Oh, I don't want to answer this - it kind of seems disrespectful. So, I'll just carry this burden alone.

(15)Do you wake up easily in the morning?
Yup, most days I pop out of bed at 5:30 am.

(16) Do you like hairy men?
Well, don't they all have hair - unless they are metros or bodybuilders? Let's put it this way, men with hairy backs, noses and ears need not apply.

(17) How about a man with a goatee?
Depends. I prefer the 5 o'clock shadow look. Been trying to get Hubby to maintain a fiver for years. He just won't do it.

(18) What is the most extreme sport you have ever done?
One time, in Mexico, I stood in line to go para-sailing.

(19) Do you prefer traveling in Europe or Asia?
I've never been to either and would like to do both. But if I can only choose one, I take Europe.

(20) What is your favorite food?
Mexican. Yummy, yummy Mexican.

(21) What is your most embarrassing moment while out on a date?
I don't think I have one... I mean, after reading Impulsive Addicts answer ("Catchingmy date "helping himself" to an O face by banging his member on thebathroom sink. That was fun."), can anything really be classified as embarrassing again? I think she WON that one.

As you might gather from the title of my blog, I'm tired. And so, I'm not tagging anyone. But give me a heads-up if you do this cause I want to read your answers!!!!

Time Management

I'm not certain, but I think this whole new promotion-thingy just might get in the way of my career as a professional blogger.

What? What is that you say? I don't get paid for this?
Just a slight technicality. I work for a non-profit organization. My blogs are used for literacy efforts at the Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good (And Who Want to Learn to Do Other Stuff Good, Too.).

Or maybe that's just in my head.

In my actual career, I started my new position yesterday. It'll definitely keep me busy. I've also decided that, in order to show my sincere dedication to the job, I'm going to forgo my Every-Other-Friday-Off and go back to a regular 5-days a week schedule. This might be disastrous for my mental health, which is problematic for Mini and Hubby since they are stuck with me.

This post is boring. Sorry for that.

With a sick kiddo. Fun times await.

I Shouldn't Think So Much

Okay, just disregard my last post. I saw something on my little MapLoco that made me a little loco... To answer your question, Coco, no pervs, murderers, swindlers, con artists or anything of that ilk. Just a little PTSD about bloggings-past that were used against me. It's just that I noticed a little heart on my visitor map that hit a little...well...close to home, so to speak. It's all good though. I'm fairly certain I overreacted. Wouldn't be the first time.

Now, for something interesting... I GOT THE JOB! Let me tell ya, that's a good way to start the weekend. My boss's boss, who I didn't even realized knew me from Adam, told me today how happy she was that I got the job and how excited she had been when she heard I was applying for it. That was pretty cool.

Equally cool is that it comes with a slight raise - enough to offset the cost of the new daycare.

And speaking of daycare, today when I picked Mini up, the first words out of L's mouth were: "He is such a joy to have around. We've been in stitches all day because he's such a character. All the parents were asking me, 'Who is this kid? He's AWESOME!'" And then she told me I should consider writing a parenting book. Yeah, right. Trust me, it's more his own natural personality than anything his PARENTS have done. But still, that was pretty great to hear.

Even better than the new job and raise.

Just thinking out loud, y'all

But, if I were to go private...would you stick with me?

ETA: I probably shouldn't be so cryptic... I saw something this morning that kinda sorta spooked me about who may be reading this blog. I think it was a knee-jerk reaction. So for now, I'm just going to adopt a wait and see attitude.

Sorry for being so dramatic.

So, the big interview ended about 35 minutes ago and I am safely back at my desk with a Diet Coke in hand. Ahhh, sweet nectar.

Impulsive Addict suggested that I flash some boob if my interviewer was a boy. You are one smart cookie… and normally, I would agree that this is a good tactic; however, the guy that is interviewing me is probably more interested than shopping with me than anything else. If you know what I mean. I’ve deduced this from the multiple times he has referred to my outfits as “sassy.” He’s great, so I’m sure he’ll go easy on me. Or maybe not. We’ll see.

The other person in the interview was a fellow Okie. In fact, she went to the same University that I did, only it was about 35 years ago when it was still called East Central State College. She’s from Ardmore, so she knows what I mean when I say…
Ardmore. (Clap, clap)
No more. (Clap, clap)
That might be more fun if the Ada Cougs were still as good as they were back in the day, but with a rivalry, you don’t have to be good to talk sh*t.

But, back to the interview. It’s weird to be nervous around people that you work with. (And weird to dress up for them, too.) Anyhoo, I tend to get pretty worked up over these sorts of things. Beginning about one hour before the interview, I began to wonder if I just might not have a heart attack. When I interviewed for my current job two years ago, I got so stressed out that I cried before I left the house and then cried in my car when I got here. I was a wreck. But I nailed it. I feel pretty good about this interview, so let’s hope this works out the same way! Like I told Hubby, though, even if someone else ends up getting it, I won’t be too disappointed because I know I had a really good interview. If I don’t get it, it will be because someone else is the better fit, not because I’m a loser.

I should know something by tomorrow afternoon or on Monday. If I get it, I’d like to know so I can go celebrate this weekend. If I don’t, I’d rather not find out on a Monday. Because Mondays already blow ass. I don’t really know what I mean by blowing ass, but it sounds bad, doesn’t it??

In other news (there ARE other things happening in my world), Mini started his new daycare today. We dropped him off and lingered for a bit, expecting a few tears. But they didn’t happen! He walked in there like he owned the place and didn’t cry when we left. I called to check in on him at 9:30 and Laurie said that he hadn’t cried at all (except for when he stubbed his toe!) and that in her 20+ years she’d never had a transition go so smoothly. I checked in again just after my interview and she said he was doing fantastic! He ate a big lunch (no surprise there) and fell asleep almost immediately at naptime. Laurie said the kids are all excited to have him there and they are all playing very well together.

This is the best news I could have asked for today. When B. told me she was bowing out, my disappointment/anger/sadness was a result of worrying about Mini. Would he understand? Would he be sad? Would he miss her? Would he be scared to go to a new place with new people?

Fortunately, it was nothing to be worried about. I had a feeling that this was going to be an even bigger blessing in disguise than I already suspected it would be. I think I was right.

Thank you all for the encouragement with the whole interview thing-y (yes, that's the technical term). It’s nice to know that I have so many people rooting for me.

This was a great day. I hope you all have days as great as this one.

When Vacations End...

I'm back from 80-degree weather and muddling through here in the high 20s. Quite an adjustment to make. But I'll survive. It's so friggin cold here. Unusually cold. I thought I had somehow flown to Portland, MAINE instead of Portland, OryGone.

A couple of quick updates.

1. Frontier did NOT charge me extra for the weight I put on over the weekend. That was nice of them.
2. Mini slept from OKC to Denver yesterday. That was nice of him.
3. I have pictures that will be posted when I have more time. This work thing is getting in the way.
4. Got a LOT of blog-reading to catch up on.

That is all. More later from the freezing cold NW.

ETA: Tomorrow at 2:30p (that's 2:30pm PACIFIC time, synchronize your watches accordingly) I am interviewing for a position at work which will be a promotion and a 5% raise. If I get it, of course! Your warm wishes, good thoughts, chants, spells, and prayers will be greatly appreciated. Please note: Due to my own personal beliefs, prayers to the Dear Lord Baby Jesus are most appreciated, however, I will accept anything you send my way.

Want an Award??

First of all, I want to announce to one and all that even though I'm going back to OryGone about 10 pounds heavier (I wonder if Frontier will charge me extra for that?), on Wednesday, I will begin anew my quest to be where I want to be weight-wise when Maui comes around. It's still 6 months away. I know it can be done.

Second, I got an award!!! I love awards, especially when they come from bloggers that I adore! This one is from Anniebanannie. Her blog is so much fun to read.... (And she's a fellow Okie and Ada girl, so how much better can you get?!?!)

Here are the rules:

List 7 things that you love and then pass the award on to 7 people...tagging them and letting them know they won! You can copy the picture of the award and put it on your sideboard letting the whole wide world know you are KREATIV!

As Anniebanannie said, ASIDE from family, friends, etc, here are seven things I love.

1. Lists. I love listing things. Grocery lists, favorite things lists. You name it. I love it.

2. Ghosthunters and Paranormal State. I adore Grant from GH and Ryan from PS. I used to think Ryan was a tool, but not anymore. I dig him.

3. Oklahoma. I lurve coming for visits and not just for the home-cooked meals.

4. Facebook. I hate to admit it, but well, it rocks my world.

5. Burgerville Sauce. It's a NW thing. Line up all the secret/special sauces of every restaurant in the world, and they won't even come close to being as good as B-ville Sauce.

6. Peace and quiet. It no longer exists in my life, but the trade off is fair.

7. My job. Yes, I said it. I love my job. I'm really lucky....... (even if the bathroom is on the wrong side of the floor...)

Kind of a boring list. Not my best work.... I'm also going to be lazy about this. So, if you're reading this and care to comment (but why would you because it's sooooo un-Kreativ) then you can have the award. Kind of lazy, but what can I say? I'll be back in top form (or better form, anyway) next week.

Funny Conversations with the Hubby

Saturday night we went to dinner.

Cheesecake Factory = 1.5 hour wait.
No thanks.

Gustav's = no parking with spillover into the garage next door.
No thanks.

So, we went to Mazatlan instead. Yummy Mexican that you just can't go wrong with in a nice quiet atmosphere...

Toward the end of the meal, Hubby starts noticing big splotchy red places on his arms and neck. They were hot and itchy. I've suffered through similar allergic reactions - to what is anyone's guess - and his looked the same.

Hubby: What did Dr. D tell you to do about this?

Me: Nothing but Benadryl.

Hubby: But didn't she prescribe something?

Me: Oh that's right. What WAS that stuff? I never took it because it made me sleepy and she told me to only take it at night, but the breakout happened during the day. What did I do with it?

Hubby: But didn't she prescribe you a cream?

Me: I don't think so.

Hubby: Didn't she prescribe you Vagisil?

....and this is when we had our discussion about Vagisil and its use, which does not include treatment of skin irritation and that I am not in possession of said cream.

We also discussed how we will avoid asking this question in such a loud voice in a restaurant in the future.

Aw, Kally!!!

Look what Kally gave me!! Isn't she the best?
